Big data, machine learning, smart devices. We are hearing these terms used more and more frequently, but do we really understand what they are and the implications of these advances in computing? How does the relative lack of diversity in the tech industry impact the opportunities and options that may be presented to customers of companies who use these tools? We will spend some time reaching a shared understanding of what these each mean and explore some real world examples of where applications of these concepts has gone well and at times, quite poorly. By understanding these core concepts, we can be better armed to ask the right questions to start the hard conversations around the collection and use of customer data.
